Courses for editors

Becoming an editor

Want to compare training courses? The Australian Council of Societies of Editors has produced the Australian standards for editing practice [PDF, 319kB]. This document describes the knowledge and skills expected of experienced editors. See how well the learning objectives of your potential course measure up.

Local editing and proofreading courses

Our Society runs courses in copy editing and proofreading from time to time: see the News page.

Adult Education Tasmania offers short courses in writing, editing and proofreading.

University courses

While we do not endorse other courses, some universities offer post-graduate courses. The list below includes only courses which do not require attendance at an interstate campus. Please let me know details of any additional courses.

Australian Publishers' Association courses

The APA runs a range of courses relevant to editors (mainly in Melbourne and Sydney). For more information, including how to book, visit the Australian Publishers Association web site.

Redact 2007

The Society of Editors (Vic) Inc. is pleased to announce the second course in its annual program of intensive editorial training.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Redact weekend residential course in Mansfield, Redact 2007 will take place from early afternoon on Friday 12 October until lunchtime on Sunday 14 October. The course offers intensive study of editing principles and processes in a collaborative and interactive format.
